Lifting of COVID restrictions/ Membership renewals/ Rules session this Thursday 6.30pm

In accordance with sports directives we have from midnight last night reinstated access to casual players and unvaxxed members now that vaccine passes are no longer mandatory. You also no longer need QR scan but it is your prerogative whether to wear a mask. Please revert if you have any queries or concerns. Let's hope this lasts!

Club flooding/ Box leagues & Interclub update/ Gear available

We had a major series of leaks during the floods on Monday, initially during the morning thunderstorm and then during an evening downpour. Now that the crisis is over I'm tempted to post videos of the cascading water on FB but meantime there are a couple of photos of the flooding below. It transpires that the water intrusion was due to two of the three down pipes on the entranceway side being blocked which led to a massive leak into court 1 damaging 4 of the new LED lights. Council have been advised and will take action to both avoid a repeat incident and replace the damaged lights. Court 1 is playable but you might be best choosing other courts until the lights are replaced.

We have 10 players registered on FB here which implies two leagues but would like more. Casual members and recent sign-ups not yet playing interclub should especially benefit from these leagues for which cut-off will be this Sunday evening so as to arrange draws on Monday. Here's the format;

We're still sitting on 9 entrants and the committee will this Thursday contemplate whether to scale back to the top echelon of men and women to contest the titles. Squash Auckland have approached me with the offer of free adult group coaching for 4 sessions in March. This would be in 4 strong groups most likely on Monday & Thursday evenings from 6-7pm. An introduction to the 6 key shots, rules/ refereeing and strategic aspects of the game would be taught with the course commencing on March 7th, RSVP to secure your spot.

Well we've been there before and now need to revert to the pre-Xmas arrangements which broadly entails being more diligent with our precautions and ensuring all court users carry vaccine passes. Can you please QR scan on arrival and discourage visitors from entering the building unnecessarily. Thanks.

In the current environment i think we need to avoid undue risk without needing to be overly zealous. Players attending club nights will be playing or mixing with most other attendees so I see little purpose in them wearing masks although they might choose to do so off court. Visitors, such as parents dropping off kids, are encouraged to wear masks if they enter the premises to avoid unnecessary risk. Once Omicron arrives it will I'm sure it will be a different story.

Advance warning that this will take place in the latter part of Feb in lieu of our usual summer leagues. Likely concept is that they will be played in a tournament format with in most cases 3 matches per player and a top division M/F to identify our club champions.
