Lockdown update/ Squashathon postponement/ Who’s for tennis?/ Job opportunity/ Lockdown Quiz

by admin in 2021, SPnews 0 comments tags: news
The levels 3a-3c arrangements outlined by the PM on Monday take some understanding but it is apparent to me from all I've heard that squash action will be on hold until Level 2. We are subject to the rules applicable to council buildings anyhow which means that it is not our decision unilaterally.

Interclub cancellation/ AGM outcome/ World Squash Day of action/ M’ship rebates

by admin in 2021, SPnews 0 comments tags: news
Bad news from Squash Auckland being the cancellation of the Winter 2 interclub competition with 6 rounds to go and replacement with a 7 week Spring pennant. Planned start is no later than 18th Oct and I've contested the wisdom behind the move particularly given the re-work by all parties. Guess we'll see where we go from here but I think the success of our ladies in the Winter league has been for nothing.

by admin in 2021, SPnews 0 comments tags: news
AGM reminder (link here) Our AGM will be held virtually tomorrow with the following agenda; • Approval of 2020 AGM minutes • Club update, membership trends etc • Approval of accounts for the year to 31/3/21 • Election of committee and other club roles (e.g. Mens beginner night co-ordinator, design supremo) • Approval for club President to enter negotiations with Auckland council regarding a lease of the BHSC • Approval of COVID membership rebate • World Squash Day • Any other business. We're always keen to identify further individuals to add skills to our lean 4 strong committee team. If you're interested please either contact me beforehand to learn more or express your interest at the meeting. Otherwise, your attendance would be very much appreciated regardless to help us achieve our quota of 10 members. Enrolling via the poll on our FB site here would be appreciated where you will also find the Zoom meeting link.

Lockdown update/ AGM next Thursday/ Walking their socks off/ Superchamps cancellation

by admin in 2021, SPnews 0 comments tags: news
Well we're drifting along with case numbers in the teen range so there's a reasonable chance we will re-open our doors in two weeks but with safety protocols. I suspect that interclub in this case would get underway in early October which would conclude after the leagues (no play-offs) allowing just enough time for a Spring pennant. But any further delay and I think the play offs would be held and Spring abandoned.

Lockdown update/ Power rankings/ Agenda for Sept 23rd AGM/ 50km or 100km challenge

by admin in 2021, SPnews 0 comments tags: news
Good to hear that COVID cases are down to 20 today compared to 82 last week which is positive news in terms of the club reopening. I've little news to relate other than that National Superchamps may well be held on the scheduled dates of 22-25 September without any Auckland teams including our Ladies "D" grade team. This would be very unfortunate for our club but is outside of our control.

Lots of news to report

by admin in 2021, SPnews 0 comments tags: news
Watching Paul Coll clean up world no 2 Ali Farag 3/1 to win the British Open was a revelation. His physicality was massive allied to some great match tactics; minimal unforced errors, lobbing at every opportunity and driving Ali continually into all four corners. Having beaten the no 1 in the semi final he's at this point in time the leading player in the world. He hails from Greymouth, is the first Kiwi male to win the British Open, hasn't been home in 3 years I'm told and is a very popular player on tour. Quite a remarkable story and a coup for the NZ squash world.

What a difference a week makes!

by admin in 2021, SPnews 0 comments tags: news
Really disappointing to have to close the club with so much momentum having been generated. The club is fully closed under Level 4 and, due to the nature of the sport, this will also be the case in Level 3. I have no doubt that the lockdown will continue until beyond next weekend. Once we have some certainty on reopening the committee will meet to discuss the prospect of membership credits. In the meantime it would be appreciated if outstanding invoices are paid.

Club closure

by admin in 2021, SPnews 0 comments tags: news
Well it's been a hell of a 6 months since the club last locked it's doors on 27th February but here we go again! Court bookings are now not possible until midnight on Tuesday 24th August before which time I'm sure we will have further news that will govern ongoing restrictions.

Want a club shirt/ Interclub update/ Kauri Park intake/ Tournaments

by admin in 2021, SPnews 0 comments tags: news
With the tennis club lease expiring next May it's exciting to report that the council have approached myself about the instigation of a lease agreement for the club. Previously, we've survived with an informal arrangement and it would be good to enter a formal arrangement.

Superchamps title/ Interclub early success/ School Prog/ Top of refs standings!

by admin in 2021, SPnews 0 comments tags: news
A marvellous effort by our D grade Superchamps squad to win the regional title and qualify for nationals from Sep 22-25 in Manurewa. Additional to the players photographed Sophie also played two matches and Daniella one. Our E grade ladies as bottom seeds beat North Shore and acquitted themselves well against higher graded opponents. Ernie will now be guiding the D grade team towards the national eliminations which will be intense.
