Intermediate zone day/ College Squash/ Membership renewals complete/ Upcoming tournaments

Our membership renewal period is now over and thanks to all our members who responded with the outcome being that almost all members have now either been renewed or struck off i squash. It's been sad to witness such a large proportion of our social members retiring from the sport and membership retention will be a key issue to address by the committee at our next meeting.

Mens 1 cliffhanger & interclub results/ Membership renewals due by tomorrow/ Juniors going hard!

Action got underway last week in Winter interclub and there was a remarkable result in Mens 1 which saw our top team matched against a NS team including ex-SP players Geoff & Matt Miller. Tuesday saw us trailing 6/5 with Ernie playing a re-scheduled match on Weds. This went to the wire with Ernie pulling through 15/13 in the fifth to level scores 8/8. Countback saw SP win by a point 216/215 to claim the bonus 2 table points. Well done Ernie & team!

Interclub underway tomorrow/ local board meeting/ junior coaching/ bridge crossing

I attended this session last Monday on behalf of the club and put a strong case forward for maintaining funding for community groups like our own with consequential health and life-style benefits. We also had a presentation from AT about the five Auckland crossing options which requires public feedback by Monday 1 May. I would recommend you making a submission via this link. Who knows, under one option you might get a local railway station! There is also a public session for which a poster is below. Interested to exchange views on this topic.

Winter interclub draws/ new booking system/ departing members/ Junior tourney

We had our first meeting last week with Hello Club! to start laying the groundwork for the new My Squash booking platform which will replace i-squash in early 2024. I can't wait to make the change as the present system is a dinosaur and we will have the opportunity to create integrated management and financial systems. Graham will be leading the charge with this and we will be liasing with the tennis club who share the same booking system.

Women’s pennant win/ Updated interclub squads/ Grading session tonight

Congrats to our Ladies 2 team who earned a second consecutive pennant in the latest league topping their table by 13 points. The squad comprised Shahrane'e (capt), Janice, Helen, Kogi, Misty & Minja and we will find an opportunity to celebrate at the club when their pennant arrives

Following last week's get-together for our newer men this Tuesday I'm planning to come and run a rules session which will encompass running through the basic rules to keep you safe on court and an introduction to reffing. This precedes the following week's session where we intend to grade new players in time for Winter interclub.

Neil has made a few calls and enlisted quite a few of our newer members for this event tomorrow with the intention to have a hit, enjoy a sausage and take advantage of our other social facilities. There will also be discussion about competition options both at the club and across the Auckland area and introduction of a coaching option. Why not head along?

Junior tournament entrants & details/ interclub update/ New members socials

We're now up to 17 entries meaning that we have got the numbers for a tournament with the likelihood of 4 strong draws. We'll probably run the tournament from 10-2pm meaning families are not committed for the full day. Entrants will be contacted mid-week with further details which I'll also explain at coaching sessions.

Junior tournament just 2 weeks away/ New member socials/ Interclub update

We've now got 8 entries for this tournament with only half being club members so it looks like it will happen. I'll be talking with juniors and their parents this week as the entry deadline is getting close being the end of next weekend. Playing in our annual tournament does add meaning both by way of the club's investment in juniors and the players meaning from the game.

I've been mentioning this for some time to our junior families and have now promoted it across the wider squash community. Format is 3 matches in one day for an entry fee of just $20 and after a gap of 3 years I'm very keen to make this happen in 2023. Most of our juniors have the ability to participate and they will just have to be club members and available that day. Here's the registration link.
